There are many ways that the City of Sleepy Eye works to serve the community. The following are the major departments of the city, including a description of their main functions. city hall & administration
ADMINISTRATION
Responsible for overall city operations. Key staff members include the City Manager, City Clerk, Public Works Director, and Economic Development Authority Coordinator. They can be contacted at City Hall.
The staff at City Hall are here to serve you. Our duties are mainly related to overall city administration, so if you are unsure which department or individual to contact for assistance this is the place to start. For personnel and contact information see our City Hall page.
ELECTED AND APPOINTED OFFICIALS
The elected and appointed officials who serve the community of Sleepy Eye are a dedicated group Sleepy Eye citizens such as yourself. We are committed to providing exceptional citizen service at all times.

utilities & services
The City provides electricity, water, and sewer. You will need to come to the City Office to sign-up for these utilities. Please bring your drivers license for ID. You will also be required to give a deposit at the time of signing up.

Driver & Vehicle Services
Our office is a limited Drivers License Agent. We can do a change of address, replace a lost or stolen drivers license or ID - DUPLICATE CARDS ONLY - NO first time card and No renewals
Title and Registration - available during regular business hours.
- DNR Registration (ATV/UTV/ORV/Boat/Snowmobile)
- Vehicle Titling and Registration including Tab Renewals
- (Renew your registration and/or transfer title)
- (In most cases we can print a duplicate title)
Electric Department
Electricity is provided through Sleepy Eye Public Utilities, a city owned and operated utility.

Parks Department
Sleepy Eye has a parks system that is at least equal to or surpasses any community of equal size in the state. The ten parks which range in size from 1 city block to 18.2 acres are arranged for easy accessibility for all city residents and visitors.
Our Parks Department is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the parks and park equipment.

Public Safety
Responsible for all safety and emergency activities in the city. Key staff members include the Chief of Police, Fire Chief, Civil Defense Director and Ambulance Coordinator, Hospital Administrator and Safety Coordinator.

Sleepy Eye Police Department
The Sleepy Eye Police Department is here to serve and protect the citizens of Sleepy Eye. Our police force is made up of Police Chief Matt Andres, 5- full-time officers, and our investigative officer. Stop by the police station, or call if we can be of service to you!

Sleepy Eye Ambulance Service
The Sleepy Eye Ambulance Service serves Sleepy Eye and it's surrounding area.
The team members volunteers their time at local high school football and hockey games as well as sponsored runs/walks on the Sleepy Eye Trail. The Sleepy Eye Ambulance Service also participates in annual Bike Clinics, Safety Camps, Kid Fairs and Health Fairs.
Sleepy Eye EMTs are very dedicated to serving the community.

Sleepy Eye Fire Department
The Sleepy Eye Fire Department serves Sleepy Eye and it's surrounding area. In addition to fire calls, their volunteer service activities include Fire Prevention Education with the schools, controlled burns, and mutual aid to other communities.

Streets
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ROADS WITHIN THE CITY?
The responsibility for constructing and maintaining city roads falls under one of these jurisdictions:
- STATE - Interstates and trunk highways
- COUNTY - Most of the minor arterial and some of the collector roadways with in the city
- CITY OR TOWNSHIP - Any public roadways that are not under the jurisdiction of the state or county. These are generally residential streets and some collector roadways
- PRIVATE - Roads constructed and maintained by adjacent residents or businesses

Waste Water Department
WHAT IS WASTEWATER AND WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?
Wastewater is used water from any combination of domestic, industrial, commercial or agricultural activates, surface runoff or storm water, and any sewer inflow or sewer infiltration. Types of wastewater include: domestic wastewater from households, (also called sewage) or industrial wastewater.
- It's estimated that every resident of a community generates about 50 to 100 gallons of wastewater per day.
- Industrial wastewater is highly variable in volume and contaminants based on the industry.

Water department
WHO OPERATES AND MAINTAINS THE WATER SYSTEM?
Most cities have a public works or water utility department that operate and maintains the water system.
- Sleepy Eye has a Water Department which is under Public Utilities. The Water Department has 2 employees.
- Daily checks and operational adjustments of wells, water tower and treatment plant.
- Repair of water main breaks
- Semi-annual flushing of hydrants and exercising valves
- Periodic well maintenance and pump replacement
