Sleepy Eye Adopt A Drain Program
Adopt-a-Storm Drain is a way for Sleepy Eye residents to become active stewards of our local surface water resources like Sleepy Eye Lake and the Cottonwood River watershed by keeping our storm drains free from litter and debris.
This project includes:
- Cleaning debris from the adopted drain at least twice a month.
- Use safety precautions while working near or in the street.
- Carefully supervise children if they are assisting with clean up.
- Properly dispose of collected debris, separating into compost, recycle or trash.
- Never remove the grate cover. If the drain seems plugged or has a problem, contact the City at [email protected].
- Optional: record data on the types of debris collected using the form at the bottom of this page
If you choose to participate please find a drain on the map below. Scroll around the map (use two fingers or your mouse) to find a drain near you. Drains not already adopted will be a blue point. Click on the point and from the left of the map comes a window with the number of the drain, make a note of that number for the form.
Next fill out the form, located below the map, and pick up your Adopt-A-Storm Drain sign at the city offices.
Then keep your drain free of litter and debris.
